WEO24 Webinar: The Age of Electricity

Paris Time
Webinar

Background information

Electricity consumption has grown at twice the rate of overall energy demand over the past decade. This disconnect will widen further, as electricity is set to grow six times faster than total energy demand from now until 2035. To feed this demand, coal’s position as the current dominant source of electricity in the world will be increasingly displaced by clean sources, as solar and wind rapidly scale up.

This webinar will provide a deeper dive into the evolution of electricity demand and electricity supply at both global and regional levels, focusing on its implications for electricity security and energy transitions. The discussion will draw from the International Energy Agency's (IEA) flagship report, World Energy Outlook (WEO) 2024, and will cover topics such as renewables, power system flexibility, energy storage, grids, and emerging sources of electricity demand. Additional focus will be given to uncertainties surrounding the future of heat pumps, electric mobility, and the impact of heatwaves.

This webinar is part of a series on World Energy Outlook (WEO) 2024. Find out more about the full series and register for more webinars on our events page.
