Rhode Island Energy Efficiency Obligation

Source: International Energy Agency
Last updated: 5 November 2017
In 2006, the government of Rhode Island introduced an energy efficiency obligation for all gas and electric customers. Obligated parties include investor-owned utilities. The obligation seeks to reach in 2015 electricity savings of 2.5% of 2012 sales (193 603 MWh) and gas savings of 1.0% of 2012 gas sales (376 915 MMBtu). Eligible energy efficiency measures include lighting; building fabric; heating system; HVAC; new construction; appliances; process improvements; motors; and drives. Savings calculations are based on a combination of metered consumption and engineering estimates. Monitoring and verification studies are done on a programme-specific basis. RI piggybacks on MA studies and contracts out with third parties. Periodic overall studies are done specific to RI.
