Regulations on Energy Labelling and Minimum Energy Performance Requirements for Air Conditioners

Source: International Energy Agency
Last updated: 27 July 2020

This regulation specifies the energy labelling requirements and the Minimum Energy Performance Standard (MEPS) requirements for single-package (such as window type) and split-system non-ducted air conditioners using air- and water-cooled condensers and heat pumps employing air-cooled condensers and ducted air-conditioners using air-to-air heat pumps for residential, commercial and industrial sector as applicable in accordance with Bahrain standards.

The MEPS are set as follows:

Starting from July 2016

  • Window type AC:
    • 18000 > CC:
      • EER at T1: 8.5
      • EER at T3: 6.12
    • 18000 = CC < 24000
      • EER at T1: 8.5
      • EER at T3: 6.12
    • CC = 24000
      • EER at T1: 8.5
      • EER at T3: 6.12
  • Split type and other types:
      • EER at T1: 9.5
      • EER at T3: 6.84

Starting from July 2017

  • Window type AC:
    • 18000 > CC:
      • EER at T1:  9.8
      • EER at T3: 7.06
    • 18000 = CC < 24000
      • EER at T1: 9.7
      • EER at T3: 6.98
    • CC = 24000
      • EER at T1: 8.5
      • EER at T3: 6.12
  • Split type and other types:
      • EER at T1: 11.5
      • EER at T3: 8.28

Moreover, the information contained in the label shall include the Energy Efficiency Ratio, the Coefficient of Performance and  the refrigerant type.
