Last updated: 11 December 2023

The Bureau de Recherches Géologiques et Minières (BRGM) published a review of estimated critical and strategic substances and past production, along with a brief associated geological background. These criticality factsheets include criticality scores ranging from 1 to 5, and the criticality index is determined according to the strategic importance for the French industry and supply risk.

Minerals with high criticality include:

·      Antimony

·      Beryllium

·      Chromium

·      Cobalt

·      Graphite

·      Hafnium

·      Lithium

·      Niobium

·      Tungsten

·      Vanadium

·      Zirconium

Minerals with medium criticality include:

·      Cadmium

·      Copper

·      Gallium

·      Germanium

·      Indium

·      Molybdenum

·      Nickel

·      Rhenium

·      Scandium

·      Selenium

·      Silicon

·      Silver

·      Tantalum

·      Tellurium
