Light Duty Vehicles CO2 Emissions Standards

Last updated: 2 February 2023

For light-duty trucks, the emissions limit for year 2016 is between 163.6 gCO2/km (for cars covering a lower surface than 3.81m2) and 227.6 gCO2/km (for cars with a higher surface than 6.13m2).
For passenger cars, the emissions limit for year 2016 is between 135 gCO2/km (for cars covering a lower surface than 3.81m2) and 180 gCO2/km (for cars with a higher surface than 5.20m2).

These regulations apply to cars of gross weights lower than 3 857kg, from 2016 onwards. Companies that produce cars of better performance than these limits can obtain transferable (tradable) credits for the reduced emissions.
