The Ministry of Knowledge Economy introduced a "Carbon Cashbag" programme in May 2009, to increase public awareness and promote voluntary participation in CO2 mitigation activities. Carbon points will be awarded to customers upon the purchase of low-carbon products. 1 point is equivalent to KRW 1 and the points can be used to buy low-carbon products. This programme is now at the pilot stage and a limited number of products can be purchased with the points. The government is planning to expand the scope of this programme.
