R-2000 certification provides higher energy efficiency standards for new homes, including high levels of insulation, clean-air features and other characteristics. Homes built to the new R-2000 Standard are on average 50% more energy-efficient than typical new homes built to code. The R-2000 program is funded under the Budget 2017 Energy Efficiency in Housing, Industry and Transportation which has been allocated $67.5M in the first four years and $15.9M in ongoing federal funding. The R-2000 program was previously funded under the ecoENERGY Efficiency initiative, which allocated CAD 195 million in federal funding over five years (fiscal year 2011/2012 to fiscal year 2015/2016).
